First let me say, Adulting is hard and frankly, it’s for the birds! Whoever came up with an 8 hour work day had absolutely nothing better to do and must have put a curse on my family! But every day I wake up, I’m constantly thinking of another way to increase my savings account and comfortably retire in my 30s! Why? Well it’s simple. While the people we love are priceless and the best things in life are free, everything else has a price tag!
- The house I live in – there’s always something!
- The car I drive – you have to turn the music down sometimes just to make sure you didn’t hear something serious. (Why do we do that anyway?! 😂 )
- The school my toddler attends is literally a second mortgage!
So that leaves me with the need to save wherever I can.
It wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized how important saving is. I can remember receiving my first paycheck living outside my mother’s house; I thought my agency overpaid me. I literally did not spend one penny just in case they made a mistake. It was fine because I had money saved from having too many scholarships in college. (Yes that can happen!!) I’m glad I did because not even two months after moving to a new state, my car started overheating. And guess what – that had a price tag for sure!
There are so many things that can pop up unexpectedly, that catch us off guard. So why not start a positive habit and be ready when it hits? To make it a little more fun, I put together a Bingo Game to encourage you/us to save. Even if there’s nothing you want or need at the moment, per se, you never know what may happen.
Financial Analysts suggest you have at least 6 months of living expenses in a savings account. Got that? Great! If not, today’s a good day to start saving! At my house, we pay allowance for chores. In my opinion, it creates an opportunity to earn money or rewards by responsibly doing something you may or may not like doing – just like I do at my job. My 7 year old has even started asking for ways to earn more money. So in efforts to make doing chores more fun, we came up with this Chore Challenge Bingo. You can determine the value for each task that works for your family.

Since kids don’t always understand why it is important to save, I make sure I reiterate that all my saving is for them. Everything I’m doing now and attempting to teach them now is to prepare them to have a financially stress-free future.
